"First line" Fertility Treatment
IVF has become a first line treatment for many of the diseases causing infertility. After years of successful use and refinement, IVF is no longer considered an "experimental procedure." It is now recognized as a safe, effective, and in some cases, a "first line" fertility treatment.

In Vitro Fertilization (IVF)

An assisted reproduction technique in which fertilization is accomplished outside of the body

In detailed clinical explanation:

IVF is an assisted reproduction that involves combining an egg with sperm in a laboratory dish.

The method involves surgically removing an egg from the ovary (by ultrasound-guided retrieval) after ovulation induction, combining it with sperm in a petri dish and, after fertilization, replacing the resulting embryo(s) in the woman's uterus. Also called "test tube baby" and "test tube fertilization".

If the egg fertilizes and begins cell division, the resulting embryo is transferred into the woman's uterus where it will hopefully implant in the uterine lining and further develop.

IVF may be performed in conjunction with medications that stimulate the ovaries to produce multiple eggs in order to increase the chances of successful fertilization and implantation. IVF bypasses the fallopian tubes and is often the treatment choice for women who have badly damaged or absent tubes.

Infertility is the inability to become pregnant after one year of unprotected intercourse in women under 35. Infertility is much more common as women age and this may require intervention prior to one year's duration in women over 35.

Declining fertility, or reduced ovarian reserve, no longer means it is impossible to have a child. Couples can choose in vitro fertilization using donor eggs and expect high success rates.

IVF Cost
IVF treatment can be financially stressful. We realize this and make every effort to help you cope. Make sure that you are fully informed about cost and therapy options.
Go for an IVF treatment that is very cost effective; one that provides comprehensive services at a fixed price. The advantage of a fixed - charge treatment package is that you don't have to pay extra for every little thing. There are IVF clinics which don't charge extra for consultations, blood tests and scans once they start an IVF treatment cycle.
Some IVF clinics can be very creative in their billing practices - and this can add up to a pretty penny you did not budget for!
